HOLOCAUST TOURS

Duration:  1 day trip (15 hours)

Prague-Auschwitz/about 460 km

Auschwitz is one of the main sites for the Nazi's "Final Solution", and thus, has become the symbol of the Holocaust to people all over the world. It was established by the Nazis in the year 1940, in the town of Oswiecim in Poland, in response to the high number of arrests of Poles, which the existing prisons were having trouble accommodating. Shortly after, its name was changed to the German name of Auschwitz.

In September of 1941, the extermination process began, which lasted until late 1944. During this time frame, approximately 1.1 million prisoners, who were all brought in by train from all over German occupied Europe, with 90 percent of them being Jews, were killed with the pesticide Zyklon B in the gas chambers at Auschwitz - Birkenau

Approximately 1 out of 6 of the Jews killed in the Holocaust died at this camp. Besides the extensive Jewish population killed, there were many others killed in Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Many of those who weren't killed in the gas chambers, still died from various other reasons, including starvation, forced labor, executions, and general cruel treatment, including medical experiments. Infectious diseases also took a huge number of lives as well.

"Indifference to others and indifference to the fate of the whole is exactly what opens the door to evil. Nobody ´s suffering should be forgotten."

I highly recommend this tour.
